Death by Chocolate Trifle

Hey Everyone!

You know, I’ve always had this theory about Tuesdays…
Everyone’s always getting on Monday’s case for being the worst day of the week, but that’s so not true. On a Monday, everyone is a little off, trying to get back into their regular groove after the amazingness of the weekend. Monday is a little sleepier and slower than the other days of the week… your workload isn’t quite where it usually is, since nobody’s really feelin’ it. This is all totally fine with me. I’m not seeing the downside, here.

And then there’s Tuesday.

By Tuesday, everyone’s fully into the swing of the week, and you’re as busy as ever… but the weekend is still so far away, it just seems like it will never come. You get that Tuesday morning phenomenon where you wake up and think “oh hey, it’s Thursday!” and then it’s like your life is over when you realize the horrible truth. Each day gets a little better for the rest of the week, until the beauty and wonder that is Friday. Ever notice how you can just shrug off all your problems, because “hey, it’s Friday!!” You sure don’t hear anyone saying that on a Tuesday.

But… you know what makes Tuesday bearable? Chocolate, that’s what.

Check out this Death by Chocolate Trifle, and tell me that a bowlful/plateful/paper cupful of this beauty wouldn’t turn your Terrible Tuesday right around!

Trifle

Ok, confession time. This is a bit of a cheater recipe because… (whispering) I usually make this from a cake mix. You know what, though, I’m totally ok with having a few of these recipes in my back pocket – cause sometimes you just don’t have time to whip something up from scratch.

I’m definitely not a judgey baker. Cake mixes can be your friend! There’s a time and a place to accept a little pre-packaged assistance… which would be anytime and anyplace, really, with results this fantastic. And you don’t have to tell anyone you took a little help from a mix – don’t worry, I’ve got your back, bro.

No doubt, if you made this entirely from scratch, from your favourite cake and pudding recipes, with homemade toffee and hand-whipped cream – the results would be completely amazing… but sometimes a gal just ain’t got time for that! This version comes together so quickly, you won’t believe it. You’ll even have time leftover to thoroughly contemplate each day of the week, and why they are better or worse than the others… as I have clearly spent too much time doing. #bakingnerdproblems

So, go make this. You might even have everything on hand. You could be eating this out of the bowl for dinner in under an hour! (I will neither confirm nor deny that I’ve had this for dinner.)

Enjoy!
Talk soon! =0)

Death By Chocolate Trifle

  • 1 box of your favourite chocolate cake mix
  • 2 boxes instant chocolate pudding
  • 2 cups of Cool Whip
  • 2-4 Skor chocolate bars, chopped (depending on how Skor-y you like it)

Prepare cake according to package directions. Remove cake from oven and allow it to cool completely. Dice the entire cake into rough cubes. No precision needed!
Prepare both boxes of pudding according to package directions.

Layer half of the cake in the bottom of a trifle dish, or large glass bowl. Cover cake with half of the pudding, making as even of a layer as possible. Cover with 1 cup of the Cool Whip (or more, if you’d like!). Sprinkle half of the Skor bar pieces over the top.
Repeat the layers, trying to make them as level as possible as you go. Sprinkle with remaining Skor pieces.

Refrigerate for 1-2 hours, to allow the layers to settle. (If you can’t wait that long, then just dig in… it’ll still be delish!)
Serve it to your favourite people.
